Rico is a solo
artist that combines unique vocals and futuristic percussive electronics
with the traditional styling of Latin percussion. The music
that he produces from this "electric-roots" approach, has a smooth, groove jazz format with sparkle for
the ears and funky Latin grooves for the feet.
Besides his own original songs, Rico has infused his sound
into the music of current contemporary artists such
as Steely Dan, Jeff Lorber, Joe Sample, Herbie Hancock, and
Santana
just to name a few. The heart of Rico's sound is played
guitar style on a
wireless, red, triangular shaped instrument, covered with
round, black, touch sensitive discs, affectionately called
the "Zendrum". This unique instrument allows him to stroll
at will right into the audience and allows the people to experience his
rhythms and explosive solos up close as well as personally
join into his percussive show, as Rico so very often invites
them to do. This type of personal interaction and attention
is an exciting experience not easily forgotten.
Rico was born and raised on the Northside of Pittsburgh, PA and
studied in Los Angeles, CA with master conga player and
percussionist, Jerry Steinholtz (Diana Ross, Four Tops, Lee
Ritenour). Rico currently resides with his family in Boca
Raton, FL. |
