The Urchins
of Brazil:
"Left in the streets, never knew my mother. My
only family are others just like me. Huddled with the mice,
underneath the city, nine summers wondering in Rio's
paradise." (Taken from the song "The Urchins of Brazil"
Rico CD)
There is a young, frightened, desperate group of children
that steal to survive and sleep when they can in the sewers
under the great city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. These
children are abandoned at birth, taken in by the older
"urchins" and are taught the ways of street
survival.
They are abused and prostituted for sex and resort to
sniffing glue just to ease the pains of hunger. They are
considered the lowest form of life by the people and
businesses that they steal from. Death squads are routinely
brought in to gun down these little menaces
and their small dead bodies and organs are sold for body
parts on the black market with their remains left to rot in
the city dumps. These are children! These are
"The Urchins of
Brazil".
Please help me, help them.
Proceeds from my CDs and donations at my live concerts go
directly to "Task
Brasil", a wonderful organization located in
Rio de Janeiro dedicated to helping "The
Urchins of Brazil". |
